NEW SOCIAL ENTERPRISE WORKING TO SUPPORT CHARITY DEDICATED TO CHILDREN WHO HAVE LOST A PARENT WHILE SERVING IN THE BRITISH ARMED FORCES

A Community Interest Company that has recently set up has chosen a children’s armed forces charity as their ‘Charity of the Year’.

Lighthouse Entertainment CIC was set up to use entertainment to support good causes. They will predominantly produce and distribute independent, low budget feature length films, but also hope to organise live events such as charity football matches and live music concerts.

Louise James, one of the Directors of the CIC said “as a start up we felt it would be beneficial for us to help one charity throughout the year, and after looking at numerous organisations and charities we decided to choose Scotty’s Little Soldiers because we feel that the work they do is extremely valuable to the children they support”.

Scotty’s Little Soldiers is a charity dedicated to supporting children and young people who have lost a parent whilst serving in the British Armed Forces.

Inspired by the experience of Army widow Nikki Scott following the death of her husband Cpl Lee Scott in Afghanistan in 2009, the charity is currently providing assistance to hundreds of bereaved Forces children around the UK.

Support offered to the children includes fun activities such as holiday breaks and group events, personal development assistance through educational grants and access to professional bereavement counselling.

Louise continued “we hope to produce at least two feature films this year. One of the films is a psychological thriller called ‘Safe Space’ and the other is a horror film. We intend to make the completed films available via a special license, which will be exclusive to people wishing to fundraise for Scotty’s. The license will enable them to charge members of the public to view the film/s and the funds raised will be donated directly to Scotty’s Little Soldiers. The fundraisers will be allowed to show the film/s at multiple venues over a 6 month period following the film/s release”.

Nikki Scott, Founder of Scotty’s Little Soldiers said “The charity is very grateful to Lighthouse Entertainment for choosing us. Any money raised goes a long way for the children we support and helps put more smiles on faces. We’re lucky to have people supporting us and in order for us to keep up our work we rely on donations. I think the Lighthouse Entertainment idea is a great one and I look forward to watching their films.”

Lighthouse Entertainment CIC will be starting pre-production of ‘Safe Space’ in the next month or so and they are looking for businesses and individuals to sponsor the production, as well as running a crowdfunding campaign.
