A big picture to elevate your true viewing spirits

The two-piece system, projector gets all the attention due to its lowly screen that actually lets you see an image in a much magnificent manner leaving you with utter amazement. But again the question on to choose which one from the myriad of offerings in market, so to let you tour through a hassle free search here are the things that needs to be kept in mind:

Size: This being one of the major features, it fluctuates with increase in image size. Following are the brightness calculating parameter that needs to be considered vigilantly, while most modern projectors can easily create a bright 100-inch image (pocket/pico projectors notwithstanding):

Presuming your room’s average 8-foot ceiling, screen height is going to be the limiting factor. As you put your feet up (on an ottoman, etc.), you would not want the bottom of the screen too close to the floor as they might interfere with your view. Here lies another addressable issue of placing the channel speakers. Rooms are usually far wider than it length for most people, thereby considering a wider aspect ratio is becomes necessary when your goal is epic movie watching. Aspect ratio: It referring to the proportions between the widths of the screen compared with its height is another important factor. A 16-foot-wide screen would be 9 feet tall as all HDTV broadcasts are 16×9 and this is also known as 1.78:1. There are various methods for showing 2.35:1 movies on a 16×9 projector on a 2.35:1 screen which doesn’t necessarily calls for 16×9 screens just because the projector is. Zooming out the projector is a technique used to fill a wider screen allowing the 2.35:1 image to fill the wider screen, but also means there will be some light spill above and below the screen. Fortunately, this is rarely an issue (after all, these are the black bars in the movie) with most projectors. An anamorphic lens is another method that requires your projector (or an external processor) to stretch the image vertically (so everyone is tall and skinny), then stretching the image horizontally a lens slides in front of the projector, making everything look so normal. The wider image produced fills a 2.35:1 screen. Gaining some light output (because you’re using the whole DLP/LCOS/LCD chip for the image) and perhaps a slight amount of detail (thanks to scaling, and using the whole chip), lenses perhaps stands out to be a better option over zooming. Because of the additional optics, the downside is that you’ll lose a little contrast ratio while added brightness and apparent detail generally make up for the slight drop in contrast ratio when tested. A 10-foot-wide image that nearly fills your field of view is awesome for movies. Gain: Talking about this aspect of projector, gain is present in all screens defining how much more they reflect light compared with a uniform reflecting surface (called a Lambert Ian surface). You can get “hot spotting” with high-gain screens, where the centre of the image is noticeably brighter than the edges. Also, the image isn’t as bright for people in the side seats if you have a really wide seating area as the light is “aimed” more for those in the good seats. Movie Projector Screen has many variety but the most common types of screens are the mat white screen, the glass bead screen, and the lenticular screen. A flat white paint coating produces a mat white screen which is well adapted for projection in a large theatre or auditorium. Suitable for screenings in small rooms, such as for home movies, glass-bead and lenticular screens can be very useful due to the tiny beads on a canvas backing that makes up the glass-bead screen, and tiny, uniformly spaced, cylindrical lenses forming the lenticular screen.
