“Case Closed” by Arthur D. Hemmings

Crime thriller involving love, hatred and death set during WWII

About the Book:

“Case Closed” is a work of fiction woven into eight years of historical facts.
It begins with a shooting in a Paris bank in 1937 that would set into action a chain of events involving the principal character on a journey of love, hatred and deaths during the Second World War.

Excerpt from the Book:

“It began in May 1937 when Otto Schmidt, a twenty-two year old German exile, gun in hand, stood in front of the teller of the bank in Villeneuve, a suburb on the southern outskirts of Paris, and demanded that he fill the bag he had thrown to him. The teller, who appeared to be shaking with fear, complied with the demand then, dropping the pretence, hurled the bag, filled with paper money and coin, at Otto and made a grab at him from across the counter. It was a mistake, the gun, a snub-nosed .38 Smith & Wesson, was fired and the teller slumped to the counter then collapsed to the floor out of sight. Otto snatched up the bag of money and ran from the bank. The car was waiting in a deserted area at the rear of the building, the engine running. Behind the wheel of the car – a Renault they had stolen just two hours before attempting the robbery – sat Helmut Spier, a fellow exile. Otto snatched the door open and jumped into the passenger seat as Spier accelerated away. On this fateful day the pair, new to the profession of bank robbery, had crossed the line.”
