About the Book:

Ray’s bored and despondent, and lays-up for a while in the country with his girlfriend who is nursing both a sick father and family farm. He falls in with a cripple called Jacko, and an ill-conceived petrol station robbery sends all their lives spiraling out of control.

With Jacko in prison, Ray is alone and penniless. He tracks his girlfriend to a commune where she is being held against her will. Ray gathers together his one-time comrades like a group of low rent musketeers, to do the one and only decent thing they would ever do in their lives.

About the Author:

Mark Ayling currently lives and works in central London. Other authors who have influenced his writing include Elmore Leonard, J G Ballard, Albert Camus, Philip K Dick, Cormac McCarthy, Charles Bukowski and William Boyd. Mark previously published another novel entitled Lying Down with Dogs and he aims to carry on writing and producing quirky, thought-provoking novels and is part-way through his next novel.

Excerpt from the book:

“The moon was big and low, and Ray knew there were places on it called the Sea of Tranquillity and The Lake of Dreams. He pictured tangerine waves as smooth as mercury lapping turquoise shores. That must be a place of repose for sure. Ray raised his arms and called out if there’s ever such a thing as alien abduction, take me now! He closed his eyes and waited. But nothing happened. He lowered his arms, and saw Jacko staring at him. Ray smoked the last nub of his cigarette and flicked it away. Then he turned, strode to the bike and jumped on, “Let’s go.”
