StottandScott – Edith Bowman tweeted “they’re lush” before heading to this year’s Glastonbury festival and The Walking Dead actress Lauren Cohan voiced her excitement in LA, Stott and Scott’s hip new range of hats are causing quite a stir, both sides of the Pond.
Cutting edge, effortlessly cool and with a practical edge, Manchester-based fashion brand Stott and Scott look set to make their mark in the world of fashion in 2014.
Born out of friendship, love and a passion for happiness
Stott and Scott were founded by Jacqueline Taylor and Caroline Kelly, two designers who are lifelong friends. Their love of fashion, the arts, and life permeates through this innovative and vibrant new brand.
The uniquely-designed hats are symbolic of the designers’ unorthodox and liberating style. As co-founder of the brand, Caroline Kelly explains:
“We see ourselves as non-conformists, not only when it comes to fashion but when it comes to life. We are hippies at heart and love the freedom of expression that fashion allows.”
A premium product
If you’re a consumer in the West, finding products made on home soil can be few and far between. With so much competition overseas, Stott and Scott is proud that its products are made in the UK. In fact the whole of the Stott and Scott range is made in the UK using 100% UK materials.
As co-founder Jacqueline Taylor says:
\”I think people love this hat because it’s something new: a unique shape made with quality fabrics of waxed cotton and lace. They look stylish and we make them in the UK using UK materials; people are really supporting us because of that\”
A fashion Innovation – A hat with style for all weather
Manchester is internationally-recognised for many things including music and football. The city has a proud history of innovation stemming from the industrial revolution and of course there is the erratic weather. Stott and Scott ingeniously combine some of these Mancunian synonymies – the net result being: ‘The Floppy’wester’ for rain or shine. The first style in the range is aptly named the Manchester. Jacqueline explains the inspiration behind the style:
“We love fashion, lots of the latest trends and vintage but we also love to innovate and create something new. Our hat is inspired by the 1960’s floppy felt hat and the hardy sou’wester. From this unique fusion of the two traditional styles the Floppy’wester was born. We love working with different fabrics and combining the waxed cotton outer with the lace inner works really well. One of the other things we love about the Floppy’wester is its versatility; it can be worn with lots of different looks. Team it up with a smart jacket whilst you jaunt around a city or wear it with a summer dress to keep those rays off your face and neck. The style has also been a big hit at the festivals which these days are renowned for the latest fashion trends.”
As well as being stylish the ranges of hats really do help keep you dry.
“We are designers from Manchester, England which is renowned for rain, but believe it or not we get sunny days too! It’s much easier running through a shower with our hat rather than an umbrella, and I like to keep the wrinkles at bay by protecting myself from the sun. The Floppy’wester is stylish and suitable for any weather “
Stott and Scott are looking forward to expanding their Women’s range with new colours and fabrics. The brand is also releasing a range for men and children for AW2014.
International superstar Pharrell Williams is never seen without his hat and style icon Alexa Chung recently quoted “Hats are underrated”. Stottandscott are here to bring hats back to the forefront of fashion, and it couldn’t be more fitting that the company is based in Stockport which was the heart of the hatting industry back in the 1800’s. It looks like the new hat revolution has arrived.
