LONDON BASED SOLDIER TURNED ECO-ENTREPRENEUR SHARES HIS STORY

The Good Rubbish Company was founded by a military veteran who believes that everything and everyone can have a second chance. Established in late 2014 by Dickon Leigh-Wood, a former Captain in the British Army, the company employs a small team of veterans and currently operates one military themed waste collection truck in London. They work with various charities and social enterprises across London, ensuring nothing goes to waste and helping those who may have fallen on difficult times.

“I was in the Army for nine years, I left in June 2013. I realised that I wanted to pursue a career in recycling and renewable energy, so I started The Good Rubbish Company in order to do that. I love working with veterans, I trust them implicitly…they are always on time.”

The aim of Paddington based company is zero to landfill; they can collect anything, from anywhere at anytime. The team clear flats, houses, offices, builders’ waste, garages, storage units, sheds and everything else in between. They believe in providing a service that is second to none in reliability, efficiency, professionalism and environmental sustainability.

“Any item we collect will be taken back to our depot where we will process it. If it’s good enough to give to charity, then we’ll give it straight to charity. If we can fix it, then we’ll fix it and resell it.”

“If it can’t be fixed, but can turned into something else e.g. a piano up-cycled into a set of shelves, then it will be. If it can’t be changed into something useful, it’ll be broken down into its basic components. If it still can’t be reused, then it is sent for incineration to create electricity.”
